Dear Parents,

The following Reading and Math Skills are what your child will be learning this week.  We are reading Henry and Mudge and the Starry Night by Cynthia Rylant.  Our genre focus is Realistic Fiction which are stories that could be real.

Vocabulary These are words to practice in reading and conversation with your child.	Story Vocabulary:  backpack, camping, lanterns, campfire, hike, tent	High Frequency Words: beautiful, even, quiet, straight, year	Reading and recognizing words with the long vowel sound and a silent e—o,u,e CVCe	Writing Main Ideas and Supporting Details Making Complete Sentences
Spelling Please have your child practice these words and sentences for the test on Friday.	Please be sure your child can spell these words and give a sentence for each one. Words long o,u,e vowel with silent e:   bone, robe, use, these, rope, note, cute, close, hope, those, one, goes Word Wall Words:  but, what, were, when, all Challenge words:     mother, father, laugh, campfire Sentences:   This is a cute robe.    What rope did he use?

Comprehension Strategy and Skills:	Questioning Skills Learn how to ask questions to help with understanding of a text.	Compare and Contrast Use Venn diagrams to show similarities and differences	Summarizing: Taking a short story and summarizing the important parts of the story.
