Dear Parents,

The following Reading and Math Skills are what your child will be learning this week.  We are reading Big Bushy Mustache by Gary Soto.  Our genre focus is Realistic Fiction which are stories that could be true.

Vocabulary
These are words to practice in reading and conversation with your child.
Story Vocabulary:  bushy,  costume,  disguise, mirror, handsome, mustache
 
High Frequency Words:
behind, soldier, story, kind, very, floor, straight,
Reading and recognizing words with the vowel pairs ow and ou
Writing Main Ideas and Supporting Details
Spelling
Please have your child practice these words and sentences for the test on Friday.
Please be sure your child can spell these words and give a sentence for each one.
Words ow and ou :  town, house, sour, frown, cow, clown, found, how, mouse, brown, could, should
Word Wall Words:  into, has, her, more
Challenge words:     mustache,  towel,  mouth,   costume
Sentences:   How did the clown frown?    The brown cow was found in town.
Grammar
Practice writing proper nouns with your child.
Plural Nouns/ plural possessive nouns:
A plural noun is more than one noun and a plural possessive noun shows ownership.

Canned Food Drive Starts this week—
This holiday season, Ellis school will once again be collecting non-perishable food items to benefit the Idaho Food bank. The drive will begin Monday, December 2nd and run for two weeks, ending December 13th.
Week #1- each day will have a theme:
Monday- “Get Souped Up!” for the Idaho Food Bank! Bring canned or dried soup, chili, stew and crackers.
Tuesday- “Breakfast of Champions!” Hot and cold cereals, pancake mix, syrup, honey, jelly, instant breakfast, muffin mix, canned or dried fruit juice, canned or powdered milk.
Wednesday- “Lunch Bunch!” Bring canned meats, soup, ramen noodles, peanut butter, jelly and crackers.
Thursday- “Dinner Tonight!” Canned meats, pasta, instant potatoes, canned sauces, macaroni and cheese, chili, canned vegetables, biscuit mix, microwave meals(not frozen),  pizza mix, spaghetti, ravioli, canned or dried fruit.
Friday- “Snack Attack!” Granola bars, fruit bars, dried fruit, crackers, pudding cups, fruit cups, and popcorn.
